Innovative Micro Systems offers a wide variety of services, but we specialize in three major areas: custom applications, databases, and small business networks. In all cases, our objective is to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of our clients.

Custom Applications

An application is computer software designed to help users perform specific tasks. Off-the-shelf applications like Microsoft Office perform common tasks needed by all businesses. We develop custom applications for clients whose requirements cannot be satisfied with off-the-shelf software. This typically occurs because their business requirements are unique, or because they don't want to change their business processes to conform to available off-the-shelf applications. We first analyze our client's business requirements, then design and build custom applications to support their business needs. We build applications using Microsoft technologies, and use an iterative development process where our clients actively participate in the development process.

Databases

A database is an organized collection of related data. A database management system (DBMS) stores the data, manipulates the data, and controls access to the data. We work with clients to understand their business, then design a database that provides controlled access to data in an accurate, efficient and consistent manner. We also install, configure and administer databases using the Microsoft SQL Server DBMS. This is typically in support of one or more custom or enterprise resource planning (ERP) applications. We also develop new reports from existing databases to help clients better manage their businesses.

Small Business Networks

A network is a group of interconnected computers and peripherals that share hardware and software resources with multiple users. We design, install and support small business networks using the Microsoft Windows Small Business Server (SBS) software. This is an integrated server suite designed for businesses with less than 75 users or workstations that provides file and print sharing, corporate e-mail, centralized management, enhanced monitoring, and remote access. We work with clients to understand their business requirements, then install and configure the server, firewall, and user workstations to satisfy those requirements in a stable and secure environment. We also train users, remotely monitor the network, and resolve problems.
